Last week saw the penultimate race in the cross country ‘Derby Runner’ league of 2015-2016. Our chairman cheered on the runners, and here he reports from the muddy fields of Ullesthorpe…
Upon arriving at the venue it was to my surprise that the race was held on a working farm. A windy day prevented our club tent to be erected, it almost took off across the fields!
A small bunch of Wreakies attended the race, the men’s race started first, the Wreake men’s team gathered in the pack and shot out across the grassy field at the start, it was quite a sight to see a herd of hundreds of Leicestershire Runners descend down the hill! Next up the ladies race, and all the mud was churned up nicely making it difficult at the bottle neck out through the gate and up the hill opposite.
The route was undulating and muddy, with three water crossings, these proved to be tricky running conditions as at the last water obstacle I saw quite a few runners slip on the stones hidden under the water.
Jim came through first followed by Shane, Hayden, Mark, DJ and Andy Peel. First lady (and first place of all ladies) saw Anne Holyland streaking through with no challengers. Second back was Anne Timlock, Julie D, Fiona and Jane Collingham.
All Runners said how tough the course was but also how they really enjoyed it! Delicious cake was served up by Shane courtesy of his wife which went down a treat. Well done everyone!
