The 3 club challenge is an annual informal event between ourselves, Stilton Striders and Barrow Runners. The emphasis is on participation and is a great social local ‘derby’. Unlike the LRRL events where only the top few runners count, the score is driven off the number of runners in the smallest team. So if one team had 22 runners and the others had 25 and 27, only the first 22 runners from each club would count. But the more runners you have in your team the better, as you may be able to drive the other teams participants further down. So everyone can join in and has a part to play! It is not intended to be classed as another LRRL type race but more of a social run to encourage all of our members especially the inexperienced ones to step out of their comfort zones and participate.
Despite being a small but mighty club, we consistently place 3rd for this event. However, we don’t let that deter us and will keep aiming high! In 2024, we hosted the event at Syston Rugby Club and had an excellent route (after hours of trial runs, looking at various options/routes and debating the obstacles to avoid from styles to cows). Despite being plagued with thunderstorms all week, we got a lucky break on the evening and were able to enjoy our efforts. All 3 clubs were very well represented, bar facilities were well used and all enjoyed a delicious hog roast and cakes for afterwards.
