The scenic grandeur of Prestwold Hall between Loughborough and the A46, is the backdrop for this really well organised local half marathon. The course has a bit for everyone; mostly tarmac (if a bit pot holed in places) and a small off-road section (did not like that) between the race track, where the bulk of the race is run and the lovely local villages of Wymeswold and Hoton. Myself and Bob used this event, with its deceptive elevation, as part of our training for London and Leeds Marathons respectively; so were not pushing it for time. Despite this (and my brewing chest infection), I achieved a 3 minute course PB! It was great to run with Bob, he really is the most fantastic support when things start to hurt.
Speaking of support, the course was well marshalled and it was great to see the residents of the villages coming out to cheer us on, providing jelly beans and kids with power boost buttons! This was a great example what a great little community we have in Leicestershire. Despite the chest infection, a solid step on the Marathon training plan. Thanks to Bob for getting me round. Onwards to Cambridge half next Sunday!
