Sunday morning saw a brave contingent of 24 Wreakies gather in Kibworth Beauchamp, for the second race in the LRRL – Kibworth 6. Spring was definitely in the air; with dry conditions, no wind, in the watery sunshine. Simon Parsons and Captain Andy showed off their new race footwear like proud fathers! We gathered in a beautiful spot – the Kibworth Mead Academy car park near the portaloos – for our usual team photo, where I managed to tag onto the good-looking end! There was plenty of smiling, chatting, even laughter. How young and foolish we were.
A big thank you to Roadhoggs Leicester AC, who organised the day and describe the course profile on their website as – “challenging”. Well, I have not been so challenged as a Wreakie since the last set of Marsha’s pictures! I found almost none of course to be flat, and two bits in particular – the climb into Saddington and Gumley Hill, were nothing short of horrific. On the plus side, this rural course goes through some beautiful countryside, a real plus for me and the runners around me who spent so much time looking at it. And Clive Mason took some of the best race photos we’ve had in a while – thanks Clive! We were led home magnificently by Toby Heaver (8th man at 33.49) and Lizzie Jones (3rd woman at 38.07). Impressive performances from other Wreakies followed on quickly behind. You know who you are. We all returned safe and sound for group therapy, tea and cake, and if you’re Ricky, photos in your Tokyo poncho with some of your fans. What a great way to spend Sunday morning. Broadband speed permitting, I will be back next year.
