4 Wreakies joined over 1200 other runners on a glorious sunny spring morning at this years Ashby 20 mile road race. The event was due some sunshine after last years race was cancelled due to snow! The 4 Wreakies on the start line were Rhiannon Baxter, Mark Bush, Andrew Carmichael and Luke Smith. Rhiannon and Luke had good reason to be there as part of their spring marathon training whilst Andrew and Mark just entered for fun!?!
For those that have not taken part previously the route is best described as an ‘undulating 2 laps.’ It is very similar to running 2 laps of the John Fraser 10 course if you have ran in that race. The inclines of Ashby did not deter our keen bunch of runners as all 4 Wreakies ran fantastic times to achieve Gold Standard for their 2019 Leicestershire County Standards.
Thanks to Ivanhoe Runners for a superbly organised event once again – this is a race put on by a local running club with London Marathon style organisation. It is a truly top class event. Rhiannon, Mark, Andrew and Luke will be seen modelling their well deserved 2019 Ashby 20 hoodies at the club very soon I am sure. Well done team!
