November Club Nights 2024

November, a month where we will hopefully see some lovely crisp autumnal weather for running! A chill in the air with blue skies makes for perfect training conditions, especially for those who enjoy trail runs. November club nights see us in full darkness, but don’t worry we will continue to keep you training with lots of variety to suit all tastes, despite the lack of light! Remember to be visible and wear light/reflective clothing/lights when out and about to be seen and safe!

November is also the start of track standards! As a reminder, over the next 4 sessions at track you will have the opportunity to complete a set of track standards. The distances are: 1500m, 1 mile, 3000m and 5k. Capt Carmichael will give further details nearer to the time, but this is your opportunity to try and see if you can achieve a set of track standards.

The Derby Runner Cross Country League season continues with the Ravenstone race in November. (https://www.derbyrunnerxc.co.uk/leicester Remember it is show up, pay and run, so no worries about whether it will sell out or if you don’t know if you can make it. You can decide on the day, and although its a race, it is different and there isn’t the pressure like the road running season. Cake and coffee after always, and don’t forget your mug! Also, Captains Bush and Jelly do a lot of work setting up and taking down, so please do your Wreakie share on the day. Keep your eyes open for information closer to the races by cross country Captains Mark Bush and Mark Jelly! We need to have teams in order to continue in our divisions, which means 8 men and 4 ladies at a minimum for each race. Please show your Wreake spirit and come along to have some muddy fun!

This year for the month of November, I want to highlight the men in the club and issues they may face. November is now recognised as MOVEMBER– a month dedicated to “changing the face of men’s health“. We know that running can bring many health benefits including mental health as well as physical health; and as runners are not immune from our bodies breaking. The following is from the Movember webiste – “Mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer – we’re taking them all on. Since 2003, Movember has funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects around the world, challenging the status quo, shaking up men’s health research and transforming the way health services reach and support men. We exist to help men live happier, healthier, longer lives – this is what drives every single one of our 1,250 men’s health projects. In everything we do, we strive to be transparent and accountable. We report thoroughly on each project so that our Mo Bros and Mo Sisters can see how their support is changing the lives of men around the world”. Movember – Changing the face of men’s health – Movember. So this November lets give a big Wreakie shoutout to all the guys/rouges/gentlemen who we run with and keep encouraging everyone to run! Who knows we may get some fabulous mustaches!

“There are times when you run a marathon and you wonder, ‘Why am I doing this?’ But you take a drink of water, and around the next bend, you get your wind back, remember the finish line, and keep going.” – Steve Jobs

Grow a mustache and I promise you will feel better” – Anon

Naked run
(e.g. no watch!)
roadOh yeah, its time to run Naked! What does this possibly mean? A way of running that doesn’t involved a watch or timing device of any kind! Yep you run as you feel, without having technology to tell you how. It is a great way of simply listening to your body, and running as you want. As it is only a 5k distance we throw in a bit of fun and you will guess what you think your time will be and a prize to the Wreakie who can guess the closest. Of course you know there will be a prize for the worse guess, who won last year??? For those park run peeps a good opportunity to see your progress! This is a different route from last year, please take care when crossing any roads/junctions!

So join me and Rachel who will be your official timekeepers and prize givers for a little bit of harvest fun!

Rayns Way roadIt’s Rayns Way Caterpillars night! For those who don’t know, what are Caterpillars you ask? A form of running that is inclusive and fun that includes bits of sprinting and steady pace in-between. You will get into groups and form into a line and start running at a nice pace for the group (nothing fast)! The person at the back, then sprints to the front of the line where then you continue just running at a steady pace. The new person now at the back of the line then sprints to the front and so on. This allows you to keep running with a burst of speed. What is great about Rayn’s Way, is that you also have a hill to go down and up! So a double training night!

Warm up together slowly from church to Rayn’s Way and then suggested session 20-30 minutes. At the end depending on numbers you could make one large Caterpillar and see if you can all turn into a butterfly!

Watermead headtorch run – Wreake route 2f
road
Tonights club run is from the Church hall, to the middle lakes in Watermead. Before the paths get too icy, we can have some fun running around our local beauty spot of Watermead. Use the run to Watermead as a warm-up and then the route will take you through the middle of the duck lakes and returns on opposite side. Watermead allows for several route change options that you can extend or vary as much as your group wants. Caution under foot as there will likely be some tree roots and other trip hazzards. *Please ensure that no-one is left alone and you MUST have a head/chest torch*!

** NOW WE OF COURSE ARE AWARE THAT THIS RUN IS WEATHER/FLOOD DEPENDENT!!! SO PLEASE KEEP EYE ON FORUM AND EMAILS AND WHAT’S APP GROUP FOR ANY CHANGES!**
